Welcome to Nikonians! Thank you for your support. Your lenses AF drive are the screwdriver type driven by an AF motor built into the camera body. The D3100 does not have an AF motor built into the camera body and therefore will not provide AF when used with your lenses. For AF operation the D40/D40X/D60/D3000/D3100/D5000 bodies requires AF-S type lenses with an AF motor built into the lens. If you want to use your current AF lenses you should get a D90 or the new D7000 which have AF motors built into the camera body. The D300S/D700/D3S/D3X also have AF motors built into the camera body. Bottom line, on a D3100 your lenses will meter but will not AF. Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!
