I've ordered a d700 as an upgrade to my d300 and can't wait to get it. In the past, I had a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 for my Nikons and really liked the way it drew as well as its low weight. Am wondering if any of you is using that lens with the D3 and would recommend it or if I should just bite the bullet and buy the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8?

I used Tamron lenses for years until the D300, then I went Nikon glass all the way. One of the big differences is that the AF-S lenses are so fast compared to Tamron. The sharpness is noticeably better. If you are going to spend upwards of $5,000 on a canera get the best glass, which is Nikon now. The 24-70 is a dream lens. Just holding it you can tell the superior quality.

Hi,
I don't have a D3 but I have ordered the D700 and do have the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 XR Di lens that I plan on using on the D700. I'm hoping that its a good match (I've certainly been pleased with it on my F4). I guess I'll know in about a month.
