"Is this correct?"

I have been taking pictures with a D700 I recently aquired and noticed that the reticle and point of focus dots appear in the LCD in overlay when it is previewed. If I zoom the image in the LCD, the markings go away and they do not show up in image files when transfered to PC. Is it possible I depressed some display setting and caused this situation or does this sound like a malfunction? I have been unsuccessfully digging around in the manual looking for something related.

US	Wow! That was buried - Display Mode, Focus point on. Another hundred years and I will have this all down.
