The Nikonians Marketing team has been asked to come up with a marketing plan for Photokina 2004. It is Nikonians objective to market the site to the participants at this upcoming event.

1. Why do I come to Nikonians? Years ago, it was to help and offer support for other photographers. As well as to meet other Nikon owners. Now, it is just to stop in and occasionally say hello.



2. What is the best feature? The members were and are still the best feature. Ask a question, you will get an answer (maybe more than one). The annual photo trips are great fun, and a great way to learn.



3. Daily, Weekly or Monthly? Monthly; however, it used to be at least daily, but time does not allow for daily visits anymore.

Originally I joined to learn more about my camera (Nikon D100) Then I found the Ladies Forum and feel like I've formed friendships there.

I think the absolute best feature are the people! I knew nothing when I first came here (At the time I thought I knew everything believe it or not! ) Thanks to the patience and knowledge shared by our masters I feel that I have come a very long way in a short time. I only hope I can become one and reciprocate one day!

One more then I'll stop - I promise! As a stay at home Mom who has never really been very many places, the critique forum is like a virtual field trip for me! It is WONDERFUL! to see so many places from all over the world! We have so many people from all over who share their pictures. It's a great way to get out of the house without well .... getting out of the house! Some of these I share with the little children at school. We are rural and isolated so it is a great and "safe" place for them to see that other people and cultures exist. It really is educational too!

Lots of reasons. The forums here are very active and photography is a favourite subject. The people here are friendly and there is a sense of community, with regulars eventually getting to "know" each other to some extent online. I initially came here for help with a brand new F80 and learned a lot - its a good place for newbies to hang out, and for experts to share their knowledge. Oh, and one never really stops learning.

1. Because this website is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to getting to know your Nikon products. Any question is fair game, and someone ALWAYS seems to have the answer. No hunting all over the internet to find that answer -- just post it here, and voila! you get the help you've been looking for. I find this to be an extremely resourceful site! It's the Wal-Mart one-stop shop on the internet for Nikon users.

2. The people. Everyone here has been extremely welcoming and friendly from the get go. There's no trolling in the forums. Just a bunch of friendly people with the same passion for photography, no matter what our skill level is. I, too, have made some wonderful friends here, and look forward to meeting others.

Well, to be quite frank with you (but I don't know anybody named Frank...), I don't know how I stumbled upon the community. I think it was a total fluke. BUT, when I started reading, I thought it was pretty cool. So I decided to hang around. (much like the rest of life)

The crazy number of people from different parts of the globe. It is definitely a friendly site with a ton of info. But the absolute best feature is that everybody seems to put up with my rambling, and better yet some actually read it.

When I am stuck at a computer working on stuff, I will check-in throughout the day. But I also go days and weeks sometimes without touching a computer.

1. Why do you come to Nikonians?
It's addictive. The founders of this site began by concentrating on a friendly and informative environment for people with a brand of camera in common.
Thankfully that brand was Nikon.
If their camera-in-common had been Canon, Minolta, Yashica, Leica, Hasselblad or any other system, the site would have been the same, but drawn a different populace.
Personally, I'm glad it was Nikon. Not because of brand loyalty, but as a Nikon user since 1969, I would never have found this unique site if the founders had come from another "brand loyal" system. Nikon is not perfect-- be it the cameras, the lenses, the marketing, or their other imaging industry endeavors. But, this site is beyond the brand name-- it's an attitude of helping others, sharing (and sometimes arguing) ideas and being friendly in the process.
2. In your opinion what is the best feature of Nikonians??
Probably the one feature that has drawn the most criticism. A touch of "censorship" that consistently is geared towards avoiding "flame wars."
(quick disclaimer-- I'm now a moderator--- but for over a year I wasn't--- and I kept coming to the site because of the friendly community atmosphere).

1. The main reason i come to Nikonians is not just to get input for my photo's (or lack there of). I like the atmosphere that is created by all of its members. The individuals that congregate on this web site are very nice as well as very talented; alot can be learned here if your willing to listen and observe.

2. The best feature of Nikonians... hmmmmmm. Probably the wealth of information contained within the boundary's of this online community.

1. Well, for me there was Nikonians before my two Nikons, and this site was the primary reason for me to pick up a Nikon in the first place. 1.5 years later, I come to Nikonians for a fun read and discussion on almost anything related to photography.

Nikonians is the finest Nikon enthusiast site on the big 'I'
The members truly have respect for each other and there are no flame wars like you see on other enthusiast sites.

I appreciate the experiences Nikonians have regarding the equipment they use. One of my favorite features (and one that could be improved) is equipment reviews. They are pretty informal right now and not very "scientific." Maybe a format for equipment evaluations could be developed.

I visit Nikonians multiple times a day in most cases -- it's a nice place to go during a lunch break

P.S. I would like to see more support and involvement from Nikon. We can be sure that they are watching what goes on, but it would be nice to get some feedback somehow.

I now visit for inspiration, motivation and fresh ideas for projects. And, of course, to keep up to date with Nikon photographic equipment, digital imaging and printing.

Seriously, I come for many reasons: to learn and to share; because of the great people; because most other discussion forums on the net tend to be more argument forums than anything else whereas Nikonians is much more friendly.

Hard to pick: either the sheer size of it which covers every aspect of being a photographer who shoots with Nikon gear as opposed to the more fragmented nature of other sites, or as mentioned above the civility and openness of everyone who helps to make this place what it is by sharing their knowledge and their time. I discovered it by accident whilst Googling for some new kit, and was immediately addicted. It is a great resource, but I've never felt as if it was 'all take'. I think we can all contribute something back to the forums, and many of us do.

It's civility. With few exceptions, it has remained the least abusive forum I've come across despite the variety of opinions. This aspect sets it apart from all the others I've known.

Many questions that are asked mirror mine, so I really do learn a lot. Nikonians are also a very friendly bunch, which makes it a very enjoyable experience when one visits.

1. - To learn. Initially about equipment, eventually about techinique and other phototgrapher's experiences.

2. - This is not a flaming club or war. When there is nothing intelligent to be said - then nothing is written (or gets deleted). This is the only forum that I really participate in. I feel I have something to gain and something to contribute. A place for all levels and every one. There is order. It makes you stop being a lurker and participate.

3. - "visit" implies that I come and go. I'm here at least 5 times a day. Every day, well, at least when I'm not on a plane or vacation. I might not post anything for several days, but trust me. I'm here hoping someone posts something new in the Macro or Book Review forums that are a bit slow latetly

The clear seperation of "intrest" groups, such as for me the D100 forum. This way not all info has to be read to extract relevant info needed. And of course the Nikon specialisation!

Photokina is great. Try to get at least in the same hall where Nikon will be. Photokina is too big to be able to look at everything in one day. Being near to Nikon will certainly optimize the potential Nikonian member.

A long time ago, I was invited to participate and I liked the site then, now I really like the site. I'm addicted to the comraderie of the members. The latest info on all things Nikon can be found here in the archives or in a few hours; minutes even. I also come to learn about the craft of photography and digital manipulation. I also like being part of this global community. I rave about it so much, I tell people in camera stores to check out this site.

2. In your opinion what is the best feature of Nikonians?

The members. Sure there are differences, but hey, even families get into arguments. VERY few instances where members have been disruptive. I think a lot of the members go out of their way to be courteous and present information repeatedly. As an "old timer" on the site, I recall lots of past archived info that I can search and repost a link to and help out a new member. We were all newbies once, and I think the ability to mentor someone new is great, even if in a small way.

Hourly during the week. Less often on weekends.

To learn, mostly. I came here as a potential buyer a few months ago, read, lurked, and learned everything I could. Got my camera about a month ago and now I'm here learning everything I can soak up.

1)1. Why do you come to Nikonians?
Wow. So many reasons. I came to Nikonians when the membership was just over a hundred or so and I came to read about the upcoming N80! It was a very exciting time. Then, I came to learn about the body and all the new lenses...But I learned a whole lot more.

Now I come to share and help others.

2) The best feature is without a doubt the great members from all over the world and the amazing combined knowledge that exists. It is truly a small world where we have so much in common. It is kept friendly and non-political. When you see the amazing amount of other forums on the net, you have to be in awe of Nikonians and its members.
(The resources are pretty darn useful too!!!)

3) I visit daily for sure. It is rare that I skip a day.
I used to read each and every post, but it is simply impossible for me to do any longer!
Since I have been a moderator for almost 3 years now, I read all of my forums posts, and then visit a few others regularly. Some days I am online all day long... (those are the good days!)

Couldn't imagine better and more competitive source of information regarding Nikon topic. Served in a friendly atmosphere, without attitude and dividing on pros and no-pros, what else could one expect?

Friendliness. Although Nikonians are from so many parts of the world, with so much difference in experience, equipment and age, you can feel like being a part of one big family. Feels like second home!

1. I come to Nikonians to find information about new & old Nikon equipement, techniques and ideas. I also try to help others who seek the same (if I can).

2. The best feature of Nikonians is the way how fellow Nikonians share their knowledge: the hospitality, the warmth and respect I find here is simply unique!

3. During schooltimes (still being student) my visits are on weekly basis. Sometimes when I'm following a topic the visits are more often, maybe even a few times every day. During holidays the visits are almost daily.

I originally came to Nikonians as an advanced amateur seeking information on the F80 for use as a backup camera in my upcoming professional career. I now come for invaluable information, the latest news, and the chance to share my knowledge.

2) In your opinion, what is the best feature of Nikonians?

I think the best feature of Nikonians, is the membership and the friendliness of the community, the ability to bring together 15,000 people from around the globe with a common interest. A close second is the ability to get a quick correct answer to a technical question.

Yes, often 4-5 times a day.

Because I feel this website is a great resource of people who know Nikon gear specifically. While there are other websites out there, not all of them can help me with my specific Nikon problems/isues.

The division of the forums. One dedicated to speedlights, one dedicated to specific Nikon boides, etc. It makes finding information simplistic.
