"COOLPIX 4500 software for Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.8 ?"
US
Greetings from Cape Cod, MA-
I just purchased a Nikon Coolpix 4500, and have spent the past 3 days trying to get the pictures to transfer to my Mac.
The provided Nikon View software seemed to install properly, but I cannot get it to recognize the camera at all. It asked if I wanted it to launch Transfer when cam is connected, I answered yes, but nothing.
I downloaded NV2 (?) from the Nikon site, but still nothing.
Can someone tell me which software I should use? I'm not a total nitwit on the computer, but this has me scratching my head.
Any assistance or direction will be a huge relief, and will stop me from reselling this on eBay!

Finally! I used a card reader and the pics transferred over to the Mac with no problem. Big thanks to Anthony for the tip. I'm a wicked newbie and appreciate the spoon feeding. For some reason the 4500 won't transfer via the USB cable.
New issue: I reinserted the card into the camera, and it reads "No Card Present" with flashing red icon. The card was reinserted several times and still not recognized. I went to the menu and the setup menu (screwdriver) and saw the CF Format, tried to highlight, but the cursor jumped right over it.
Tried to change the PSAM mode by holding down the mode button, but was not able to access that menu. Not sure what to do.

Have you tried to format the CF card in the camera? What is your USB set to? (SET UP Menu/USB/Mass Storage).
Try this, Using the SHOOTING MENU (Camera), scroll to the last menu page: Reset All. {TIP: Toggle down, press MENU to go from page to page.) You will see the following screen: ___________ RESET ALL Reset all settings to the default values
No Reset ___________
Select Reset.
Take out your camera battery and charge it. Leave it out for 12 hours or so. Reinstall the battery. With the camera off, make sure the CF Card is NOT installed. Turn on the camera. It should recognize that there is no CF CARD. Turn it off and install the CF Card. See if it is recognized, then format the CF CARD. (See my reply to your other post.)
When you copied the files over to your Mac, did you reformat the card on the Mac? Did you delete any images on the Card? What size and manufacturer card are you using? (I have used 256MB, 512MB, 1GB and 2GB cards successfully in my CP4500, Lexar and San Disk.) Have you tried another CF Card? It could be corrupted.

Bingo! It worked after I hit "reset" but I did everything else you suggested just for good measure. The card is a 2 GB and I'm looking forward to filling it up, thanks very much. I'm not here to bash Nikon's tech support, but nothing they did worked. I'm guessing it was someone reading from a script, and not a hands on user like yourself.
Thanks again. It's a sunny day on Cape Cod today and I'm going to get to know this camera. Whew!

I'm up and running thanks to Anthony's help. Using a card reader is working great, thanks! I've learned to format the CF cards and also reset all the defaults within the camera. Now it's time to start filling the cards up and posting pics!

Glad to hear you are up and running. It really is a cool camera. I bought the accessory lenses for it...fish eye, wide angle, 2x and 3x converter lenses. The on camera flash is poor so I bought an SB30 to go with it. Macro on the camera is awesome!

The guy gave me a packet with 4 add'l lenses, but I'm not sure what the do yet. Pretty sure one is a polarizer, two of them are darker, the other is a mystery so far.
I'll have to Google what a Macro does, and will also check out the SB30.
I live in Cape Cod, MA where the sun can be harsh, so learning what the settings are and what they do will be my priority. The users manual is not easy for me to understand, so I'll search around for tips and hints. Right now I set it all to auto just to get started, and the pics are leagues ahead of what my old cams can do!
