Recently, some of my photos from my D-70 have been coming out with the image blacked out on the top of the picture. It looks something like a flash sync problem, except that it is on the top, not the sides, and the blacked out portion is not an exact straight line, but almost straight. It happens with or without my SB-800 flash and in both Sports and Portrait settings.

I thought maybe something might be hanging from the mirror, so I put it in mirror lock-up, but did not see anything hanging from it.

Could this be a camera software issue? Anyone have any ideas?

I think it is time to call Nikon at their 24 hour line at 800 - 645 -6689

The Nikon shutter travel verticlaly not horizontally and like all Copal type shutters a faulty flash synch would be across the long demension.

I think you have a mirror not flipping all the way up or would that be the opposite?

Time for the camera to go to the shop - it will only get worse.
